Kyla Brown, R.Psych
BRAVE Psychology

WELCOME! I have come to know that although knowledge and skill are important in assisting others in their healing, they are far less essential than being present with people in their experience. My hope in working with you is that whatever your story, you will come to know that you make sense, that you are worthy and that ALL of you belongs.

By our very nature, we are a human paradox. We are a human being. The being is the infinite and the human is very finite. We walk around like lightning in a bottle.
— Mark Nepo

I am Kyla, a Registered Psychologist in the province of Alberta. I am the mother of two boys, who are the spark of my life. I have a passion for living an abundant, joyful and beautiful life- which I am learning is the result of being present to all my experiences. I desire to share with you the truths that I have reconnected with about being human that have brought me greater peace and freedom. Discovering and reclaiming these truths for myself has been a difficult, yet life-giving process - revealing the inherent tension present in all of life. One of the areas I have experienced this tension is in balancing my role as a psychologist with the reality of living out my own turbulent, yet beautiful experiences of being human. The process of learning to live authentically by accepting the various and sometimes contradictory truths within my lived experience has allowed me to more deeply know that not one of them defines who I am. Nothing inside or outside of me can disqualify, nor qualify my worthiness or wholeness. I am not better or worse than anyone else, I am simply human. The tension present in this truth has allowed me to hold myself more lovingly in the face of my own humanity, and my divinity. As a result, I continue to move towards a way of being and relating to others that more deeply honours the inherent sovereignty, dignity and wisdom within each of us.

Kyla Brown Overview
Kyla Brown Therapeutic Offerings

My perspectives as a therapist and a human continue to go through transformation as I integrate new understandings gained through ongoing training and as a result of my own personal healing journey. I primarily work with individuals - as much of the therapies I draw from are practiced in this way. I believe that releasing the stories of both our inherent brokenness and superiority, and returning to the truth of our shared humanity, can have a large impact on how we relate to others and the world around us. I have been trained in several trauma-informed approaches. Please see below for further information regarding the models of therapy I utilize.

Kyla Brown Experience

I completed a graduate degree in Marital and Family Therapy in 2008 and finished my registration as a psychologist in 2013. I have been a therapist for nearly 15 years and have worked in a variety of settings and systems during that time. I spent the majority of these years working in schools providing 1-1 therapy, assessment, parent and school consultation, and running prevention and support programs for students. I have also spent some time providing therapy with the health region in a community clinic for adolescents and another for adults with complex mental health. I started my private practice in 2011 when I began the registration process to become a Psychologist and have continued it alongside these other roles. I am grateful for all of these experiences as they have shaped my approach to therapy in my practice, brought clarity to my sense of purpose and passion, and led to the creative collaboration of BRAVE HUMANITY.
